Lookattheeffectbadbosseshaveontrust—howthistypeofbehaviorruinsrelationshipswithcustomersaswellasemployees.Oncediscovered,asitalwaysisintheend,cynicalmanipulationrendersfuturetrustimpossibletoo.  Whatabouttheimpactonmotivation?Considerhowyoufeelifyoufindyourselfgoingalongwiththeboss’sbadbehavior.Doyoufeelmotivatedordepressed?Doesitmakeyouwanttoexertyourselforlimityouroutputtonomorethanisneededtopreserveyoursafetyandcareerprospects?  Rigiditynext.Mostmachobossesseechangingapoordecisionasanunacceptablesignofweakness.Howmanytimeshaveyouseenabadleaderproducedisasterfromwhatcouldhavebeenatriumph,simplybecauseheorsherefusedtoadmitto—andchange—abaddecision?  Takesometimetoconsiderwhatsurvivalinthelifestyleofabadbossdemands.Isthathowyouwouldbewillingtolive?Aretherewardstheygetworthwhattheyhavetodotogetthem?
